Friday, Friday & A Giveaway

I am so glad it is Friday and the weekend is finally here.  It is going to be another busy weekend.  It started last night with Jams for Justice put on by the Criminal Law Society.  It is our annual karaoke contest.  Yours truly came home with the second place prize for mine and Heather's lovely rendition of "Baby Got Back."  This performance was in no way influenced by free beer or shots.  We have decided to take our show on the road.  Pictures to come later.  Tonight is our annual Women in Law silent auction.  Tomorrow, I have a macro (basically an editing party) for law review.  But, tomorrow afternoon/evening will be topped off with an old-fashioned bar crawl on Shem Creek.  Sunday, I will have to be productive, though I am sure I will have a hard time keeping my head up due to exhaustion!

Now for my weekly five questions...

1. Can you drive a stick shift?
I cannot drive stick shift.  I have always wanted to learn.  I think it is a useful skill to have.

2. What are two foods you just can't eat?
I am a texture person when it comes to my food.  If it has a funny texture, then I am probably not going to eat it/like it.  Collard greens are one food I cannot eat.  For one, I cannot get over the smell.  Also, the texture is just awful.  I cannot eat liver pudding.  I will not go into what is liver pudding for those that don't know, because I don't really even know.  But, my dad makes it and you can buy it in the stores.  It is definitely a southern "delicacy."  It is a texture thing, and I really don't want to eat anything called liver pudding.

3. Do you buy Girl Scout Cookies? What is your favorite kind?
I usually buy Girl Scout cookies every year.  My grandmother works at the Juliette Gordon Low house in Savannah, GA (here).  She orders cookies for the entire family.  My favorite are the traditional shortbread, thin mints, and peanut butter patties.  I am picking up my cookies on Tuesday!

4. How do you pamper yourself?
I love a good day at the spa - even it if a short day.  I am a big fan of mani/pedis.  Massages are my favorite thing in the world.  Since I am on a budget, I good bubble bath followed by DYI mani/pedi is my pampering these days.  Except when there is a Groupon.

5. What is your nickname and how did you get it?
I have all sorts of nicknames.  Some I will not mentioned for various reasons.  The ones I will mentioned were given to me growing up.
  • Ash: this is an obvious one
  • Ton: I have one friend that calls me Ton
  • ABD/AD: some of my friends call me by my initials, not sure why...guess they just kinda roll of the tongue easy
  • Ashepoo: as a child I loved Winnie the Pooh and there is also a river in the lowcountry called the Ashepoo.  This one is probably my favorite.
Nicknames are big in my family.  Everyone of us has a nickname and more often than not referred to our nickname rather than our real name.  My parent's real names are Penelope and Thaire, but they go by Penny and Scooter.

And what you have all be waiting for (hopefully)...
I present Soulshine's first giveaway.
One lucky gal (or my one guy follower) will get...

$25 JCrew gift card
AND

I am very excited to team up with a new, exciting company here in Charleston.  I bring you Surcee Press.  Surcee Press is different kind of company.  With so many people using e-readers, books are becoming less common.  Surcee Press has dedicated themselves to reviving the actual printed word.  They current project is "A New Guide to Charleston."  It will showcase the "real" Charleston seen through the eyes of the locals.  Please check out their Kickstarter page to learn more about this incredible project.  They are trying to raise the appropriate funds to make this project a reality.  What makes Surcee stand out is that all of their materials are handmade.  Like this journal, I will be giving away...

To enter:
1. Be a follower and leave a comment telling me whether you prefer an e-reader or a real book. (One Entry)
2. For two additional entries, re-blog about this giveaway and let me know that you did.  Please leave a link.
I will pick a winner next Friday, so you have until Thursday, March 3rd to enter.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
Tootles for now y'all!

Soulfully,
Ashton

  1. I haven't tried an ereader yet because there is something wonderful about a traditional book that I love. But if someone gave me a free ereader I wouldn't turn it down!

  7. i'm a new follower! i definitely prefer the real thing. something about holding a book in your hand while you read it, and being able to put it on the bookshelf when you're done. something about that is just so traditional to me, that i'd have a hard time not having books in my house! maybe that makes me a dork :)

  30. I have to say that I love my Kindle. I never leave home without it. I do still love reading real books. My mom always passes down books to me after she finishes them. If I had to choose I would probably pick my Kindle just for the variety and ease it provides!
