Gah! I hate going so long {well what seems long to me} without blogging. My little corner of the blogosphere has become my outlet for creativity and the general craziness that my life is at times.
The past two days have been my trying to get my life in order, applying for summer jobs, and applying for real life jobs. When did I almost become a 3L? I am applying for some federal bankruptcy clerkships and these are due in the next two months or so! I would not be filling the position until August 2012 after I take the bar, but the deadlines to apply are a year in advance.
More on that whole process later...lets get to some fun stuff.
It's Friday, Friday!! And that means it is time for some Friday Fancies with {av}. Guess what?...I get to meet {av} tomorrow! Pumped! This will be my first bloggy meet-up. She will be in Charleston for a wedding. This weekend also marks her and her husband's one-year anniversary, and it is his birthday. I feel like me and my fellow Charleston bloggers are pretty special to be able to meet-up with her since she has so much going on this weekend. We are meeting up at the Charleston Farmer's Market in Marion Square. {look out for a post on all the wonderful things the farmer's market has to offer} I love the Farmer's Market! {av} lucked up with this being the first weekend of the Farmer's Market this season. It truly is a hidden treasure of Charleston.
If I could pick the perfect outfit for our meet-up and disregard the price tags, this would be it...
Few things that have happened this week that I would like to share...

I got my friend back with an equally good April Fool's joke. {see here} I was a couple of days late, but it was priceless, nonetheless. She and I were g-chatting on Tuesday and I sent her this link...Chick-Fil-A to Open on Sundays with this lead in "OMG...dreams really do come true." I thought she would get all excited, read the full article, and say that was a mean joke. NOPE! She read the title and it went straight to Facebook! BAH!

The South Carolina Court of Appeals held court in Charleston yesterday, more specifically at the Charleston School of Law. They heard oral arguments in three different cases. At the appellate level, litigants prepare written briefs presenting their cases. The judges read these prior to oral arguments. Each side is given 15-30 minutes {depending on the court} of oral arguments. During oral arguments, litigants advocate for their clients similar to an opening or closing statement at the trial level. The judges {a panel of three at the court of appeals and a panel of nine at the supreme court} can stop the attorney at anytime to ask him/her a question. Questioning by the judges can last the entire allotted time or they may just ask one or two throughout the allotted time.
Usually, the Court of Appeals holds court in Columbia, SC. This was truly the mountain coming to Muhammad. It was a unique experience to see the court/judicial system in action. I have sat in on court numerous times, but only at the trial level.
I hope to get back to some regular posting once this week is over. It is major crunch time for me, so bear with me. I had a mini heart attack earlier this week when I looked one of my syllabi and realized I only had six classes left...only four now in each class! HOLY MOLY! Where did the semester go?
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! And, for those of you winding down your semesters, too...good luck on exams and final projects.
Soulfully,
Ashton
